a simple journaling practice & ritual to close the year
It’s been snowing on and off this week - unusual for this part of the world, well in contemporary times anyway - and with the snow is an invitation to allow more rest, more contemplation and more connection to the unseen.
Like many, this year was not an easy one. I struggled in many facets of my life - physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing, financial security and spiritual hygiene. That is not to say that I didn’t get a lot ‘done’, it’s more to say that what I did create, connect, accomplish, hold, grieve, carry and commit to was really hard. Exhaustion, overwhelm, grief, lethargy, sadness, anxiety.
There was also a lot of joy and laughter. Cuddles on the couch, helpful conversation, craft-making, roses in the garden, silly puppies, giggling children and the arms of a loving woman around my shoulders. And thank goodness for those things and those humans.
In these liminal days between the Solstice, Christmas and the beginning of the year, there’s a space for thinking, dreaming, releasing.
I’m sharing a simple journaling practice and ritual you can do for yourself, and your business. There’s no goal setting here. It’s about contemplating the last 12 months, and the coming year. It’s still winter in the northern hemisphere and a good time to simply consider, but frankly, not to plan or plant. Sitting with what felt really good this year, and what felt really hard will help inform what kind of creative projects and work I want to cultivate in the coming year.
